Marko and Maija’s Dolomites elopement adventure kicked off at sunrise in Passo di Giau (Giau Pass). We’d intended to start at a higher elevation, but the fog had other ideas. Fortunately, you can pull over literally anywhere in the mountain range’s winding highways and expect to find jaw-dropping views. We rerouted just a bit, and were rewarded with some incredible peeks at the mountains as the clouds rolled in and out.

When the Dolomites really started to show off in the background, we used this moment to pause our adventuring and I backed away, zoom lens in hand, so the two could quietly exchange their vows to each other.

Later, our Dolomites elopement adventure took us to Passo Giau’s famous viewpoint, which had finally been released from its foggy blanket.

In the afternoon, we headed off the beaten path for rolling alpine hills, a delightful bus ride, and a wholesome lunch. Almhütte Plätzwiese is a lesser-known location bursting with incredible views and opportunities to relax and soak in the “real” Dolomites feeling.

Lastly, we spent our evening together at the world famous Lago di Braies, or Pragser Wildsee. Earlier in the day, the line to park had been literally miles long, but as the rain and sunset rolled in, we nearly had the place to ourselves.

Planning Your Dolomites Elopement
The Dolomites are one of the most breathtaking places in the world to elope, offering a perfect blend of dramatic landscapes, intimate seclusion, and European charm. Whether you dream of exchanging vows atop a jagged peak at sunrise, beside an alpine lake with crystal-clear waters, or in a cozy mountain rifugio, the Dolomites provide an unforgettable backdrop. Unlike traditional wedding venues, these mountains allow you to craft an experience that is entirely your own—one that feels wild, romantic, and deeply personal. With fewer crowds than other famous European destinations, you and your partner can soak in the moment without distractions, surrounded by the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.
Beyond the scenery, eloping in the Dolomites means embracing adventure. You can hike to a secluded ceremony spot, take a scenic gondola ride to a panoramic vista, or even explore the landscape via a vintage cable car. After your vows, celebrate with an intimate picnic of local cheeses, speck, and a bottle of Italian wine, or enjoy a cozy dinner at a Michelin-starred mountain lodge. Whether you visit in summer, when wildflowers blanket the meadows, or in winter, when the peaks are dusted with snow, the Dolomites offer a stunning and timeless setting for your love story.
