Haystack Rock Couple’s Session

Haystack rock engagement photos

Sydney and Tommy are already married, but wanted to take some photos in Oregon before they head back home to Colorado after finishing school. I love how much they love it here, and I was stoked to help send them off with some gorgeous photos to remember their time here and hang in their new Colorado house.

Romantic, adventurous sunset photos at Haystack Rock and Oregon Coast’s cliff sides, near Cannon Beach

After enjoying the golden rays that started to form at Haystack Rock, we skipped over to nearby cliffs to watch the sun make its final descent.

For couples seeking a blend of raw beauty and intimate moments, the Oregon Coast offers an unparalleled backdrop for a photo session that feels as genuine as your connection.

Why the Oregon Coast?

Imagine walking hand-in-hand along Cannon Beach, with the iconic Haystack Rock standing sentinel as waves kiss the shore. Or sharing a quiet moment atop the cliffs of Cape Perpetua, where the forest meets the ocean in a breathtaking embrace. The Oregon Coast is a tapestry of dramatic landscapes—towering sea stacks, misty forests, and secluded coves—that mirror the depth and complexity of your love.

Timing is Everything

The Oregon Coast’s weather can be unpredictable, but that’s part of its charm. Embracing the elements—be it the soft drizzle of rain or the golden glow of the setting sun—adds authenticity to your photos. Golden hour, the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset, offers soft, flattering light that enhances the natural beauty of the landscape and your connection.

Planning your session around the tides is also crucial, especially if you’re aiming for shots near tide pools or specific rock formations. Low tide reveals hidden gems, while high tide brings dynamic waves that can add drama to your images.

What to Wear

Opt for attire that complements the natural tones of the coast. Earthy colors, soft neutrals, and flowing fabrics work well against the backdrop of sand, sea, and sky. Consider layers to adapt to the changing weather, and don’t shy away from accessories like scarves or hats that can add movement and interest to your photos.

Footwear should be practical yet stylish—think boots or sandals that can handle sandy paths and rocky terrains. Ultimately, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident, allowing your true selves to shine through.

Making the Most of Your Session

Your couple’s session is more than just a photoshoot; it’s an experience. Take the time to connect with each other, share stories, and embrace the moment. Whether it’s dancing barefoot on the beach, exploring a hidden trail, or simply watching the waves together, these candid interactions often result in the most heartfelt images.

I will guide you through the session, capturing both the grand landscapes and the intimate details—the way you look at each other, the gentle touches, the shared laughter. These are the moments that tell your unique love story.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the Oregon Coast for your couple’s session is about embracing the wild, the unpredictable, and the profoundly beautiful. It’s about creating memories in a place that resonates with your spirit and reflects the depth of your connection. So, pack your bags, bring your love, and let the coast be the canvas for your story.

I’m Jaime, an Oregon wedding photographer with a passion for intimate and intentional weddings. I'm also a trail runner, mountain lover, and recovering project manager, who thrives in tall peaks old growth forests, rocky coastlines, and everybody-knows-your-name wine bars. This place isn't a destination for me - it's home. I know the tides like the back of my hands, and I'm not afraid of wind, rain, and a little bit of sand.

I take a primarily documentary style approach to my galleries. You'll find an abundance of stolen glances, gentle hand squeezes, and shared laughter. I'm also thoughtful about composition, lighting, and colors, which all help tell the real story of your day.

Your portraits will feel natural and not overly-posed, and we'll make sure that you get to enjoy your day without it feeling like a photo shoot (unless you want it to!).
