This Florence, Oregon elopement took place just one day after I photographed a beautiful, sunny proposal in exactly the same spot. Fortunately, the torrential downpour did not dampen our spirits ONE BIT. Beyond its natural beauty, the Oregon Coast offers charming small towns like Cannon Beach, Manzanita, Depoe Bay, and Yachats, each with its own personality. From cozy coffee shops to art galleries and hidden hiking trails, there’s no shortage of ways to make your elopement a full experience rather than just a ceremony.
Planning Your Oregon Coast Elopement
Once you’ve chosen a location (and if you’re not sure, I have plenty of recommendations, from iconic spots to secret escapes), the next steps are logistics.
For most public beaches, permits aren’t required as long as your group is under 50 people and you’re not setting up structures like chairs or arches. Legally, you’ll need to obtain a marriage license from any Oregon county office—just be aware of the mandatory three-day waiting period before you can officially tie the knot.
For your ceremony, you’ll need an officiant and two witnesses over 18. If you’re eloping just the two of you, I’m happy to help by officiating and bringing along witnesses so you can focus entirely on each other.
