An Oregon Coast Elopement that Captures the Full Magic of the Landscapes

Erica and Dacoda came in from out of state with a pretty clear intention: they didn’t want their day to feel like something they had to manage. They wanted the perfect blend of effortless, intimate and stunning. We quickly decided that an Oregon Coast elopement would be exactly right for them.

We built the day around moving through a few different landscapes, delivering a gallery that beautifully showed off the Oregon Coast, as well as their connection to each other.

Starting at the Beach for Ceremony and Portraits

For Erica and Dacoda’s elopement, we started on the beach near the coast’s iconic Haystack Rock. Here, the two exchanged vows and moved into beachside portraits. On our way back to our cars, a local man hopped out of his home to congratulate the two with a bottle of wine.

Walking Through Old Growth Forests

Although the coastline is known for its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, many folks choose Oregon Coast elopements because they’re drawn to the mossy, damp, lush old growth forests that run alongside the landscape as well. I love taking my couples here – many come from states that don’t have forests quite like these.

The View From Above: Heading Cliffside for Sunest

Aside from traveling abroad, the cliffs along the Oregon Coast are your best bet for drama, moodiness, and absolutely jaw-dropping views of the ocean below. We made this our third location so we could take advantage of the golden light at sunset.

Planning an Oregon Coast Elopement

There’s a reason the Oregon coast is one of the most sought-after places to elope in the Pacific Northwest. With its dramatic cliffs, windswept sea stacks, and long stretches of moody shoreline, it offers a setting that feels both expansive and personal at the same time.

For couples looking to step away from a traditional wedding and create something more intentional, the coast makes that easy.

If you’re wondering how to elope on the Oregon coast, here’s what to know.

Why Elope on the Oregon Coast

The Oregon coast works especially well for couples who want a mix of accessibility and landscape variety. You’ll find stretches of coastline with small coastal towns, quiet beaches, and scenic overlooks—all within a relatively short distance of each other. That means you can have a day that feels dynamic without needing to over-plan or travel far.

Whether you’re drawn to open beaches, rugged cliffs, or tucked-away forested areas near the shoreline, there are options that feel cinematic without being overproduced.

It’s the kind of place where things can stay simple, but still look incredibly intentional.

When to Elope on the Oregon Coast

The coast is beautiful year-round, but conditions shift often.

Summer (July through September) tends to have the most consistent weather and warmer temperatures, though it’s also the busiest season.

If you’re open to more variation, late spring and early fall (May and early October) can feel quieter while still offering mild conditions.

Winter brings fewer crowds and more dramatic skies, but also a higher chance of rain and wind.

No matter the season, it helps to expect some unpredictability. Fog, cloud cover, and shifting light are all part of the experience – and often what makes the setting feel the way it does.

For both lighting and privacy, sunrise and sunset are usually the best options. Mornings tend to be calmer and less crowded, while evenings offer softer light and more color in the sky.

Oregon Coast Elopement Permits and Legal Requirements

Permits vary depending on where you choose to elope along the coast.

  • Public beaches: typically do not require permits for small, simple ceremonies
  • Oregon State Parks: often require a special use permit, especially if you have guests or any setup
  • More structured locations: may have additional guidelines depending on use

If your elopement is minimal – just the two of you, an officiant, and a photographer – it’s often straightforward.

For legal marriage in Oregon:

Most couples keep this part simple, and there are always ways to make it feel easy and low-pressure.

I’m Jaime, an Oregon wedding photographer with a passion for intimate and intentional weddings. I'm also a trail runner, mountain lover, and recovering project manager, who thrives in tall peaks old growth forests, rocky coastlines, and everybody-knows-your-name wine bars. This place isn't a destination for me - it's home. I know the tides like the back of my hands, and I'm not afraid of wind, rain, and a little bit of sand.

I take a primarily documentary style approach to my galleries. You'll find an abundance of stolen glances, gentle hand squeezes, and shared laughter. I'm also thoughtful about composition, lighting, and colors, which all help tell the real story of your day.

Your portraits will feel natural and not overly-posed, and we'll make sure that you get to enjoy your day without it feeling like a photo shoot (unless you want it to!).
