Showcasing the magic of the PNW at this Roche Harbor Resort wedding
Amanda and Zach completed their medical residencies at the University of Washington in Seattle and wanted their wedding to reflect the beauty of their current home. Their Roche Harbor Resort wedding on San Juan Island beautifully set the stage.

If want something that actually feels like a destination, a Roche Harbor Resort wedding on San Juan Island is worth a serious look. It’s not the kind of place you stumble into; It’s secluded and a little wild and genuinely stunning, and getting there feels like an event in itself. The islands have everything that makes the Pacific Northwest – the Cascade Mountains rising up behind Orcas Island, the sound, the rocky shores, the grassy coastlines, lighthouses, woods. By the time everyone arrived, the day already felt like an escape.
Getting Ready at the Resort

Amanda and Zach got ready separately in cabins at the resort, saving their first look for the stunning on-site garden.
The Wedding Day
These two are so, so incredibly in love with each other and it really shows, not only in the way they are with each other but in the way they are with their community. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during their vow exchange – even tearful onlookers stopped to listen in.
For toasts, so many friends and family lined up to talk about how the two are as friends, physicians, and partners. I am just so delighted for them, and so touched by their connection.

Vibrant cocktail hour and celebration

Roche Harbor Resort Weddings get to enjoy a stunning outdoor patio and indoor reception space, coupled with divine food and top-notch service.
Sunset Portraits on the Docks

Before the resort’s Colors Ceremony, we snuck outside for more playful portraits in the garden and on the docks. I love these little pockets of time where formal portraits are behind us, and we get to fully lean into the playfulness and joy of the day.
Closing Down the Night
As the sun was setting, Amanda surprised her mom – who had been so helpful with all the planning – with feather boas and Y2K sunglasses, the DJ calling all the girls to the dance floor, her uncles passing boas out across the room, “Dancing Queen” into “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.” Her mom had no idea.
After that came a “Where’s My Husband” remix for Zach, more goofy sunglasses, and then the two of them sneaking away to the gardens – just hand in hand, running through the grounds in her dress, right as the day was ending. She’d had that image in her head for a while. She got it.

Planning a Roche Harbor Resort Wedding
A few things worth knowing if you’re considering Roche Harbor for your own wedding. They host one wedding per day, so you genuinely have the whole place to yourselves. Guest capacity goes up to 250, and the venue handles catering in-house – menus lean heavily into Pacific Northwest ingredients: San Juan Island shellfish, locally-raised lamb, seasonal produce. It’s the kind of food that actually fits where you are.
For lodging, they offer a courtesy two-night room block for guests at the resort, which is a great home base – but San Juan Island has plenty of other places to stay if the block fills up, so it’s worth giving guests a few options early. Setup, breakdown, catering, and bartending are all included, and they’ll assign you both a venue planning manager and a catering manager, so there’s a real team behind the day. For a destination wedding where guests are already doing some logistical heavy lifting just to get there, that kind of full-service setup makes a real difference.
