Weddings at Maysara Winery
Maysara Winery sits south of McMinnville, and it’s one of the most requested wedding venues in Oregon wine country. The estate pairs old-world architecture with 532 acres of biodynamic vineyard. Literally every corner of the property already looks like it was designed for a celebration. For couples chasing an Italian-inspired wedding without booking a flight to Tuscany, Maysara is about as close as Oregon gets.
The Story Behind Maysara Winery
Maysara’s history starts with Moe and Flora Momtazi. They bought roughly 500 acres of an abandoned wheat farm just outside McMinnville in 1997. Moe had learned organic farming from his grandfather back in Iran, and brought those same values to the Willamette Valley. The family planted their first vines in 1998 and never touched the soil with chemicals, choosing biodynamic methods from year one instead.
Today Maysara is still family-run. The Momtazis’ daughter Tahmiene took over as winemaker in 2007, and her sisters lead sales and event planning. Maysara is also one of the first woman-owned and immigrant-owned wineries in the Willamette Valley.
Old-World Design, Right in the Willamette Valley
Walk into Maysara’s event space and you’ll understand why so many couples plan Italian or Tuscan-inspired weddings here. The building is built from stone and heavy timber, with vaulted ceilings and rafters. Wide arched doorways open onto patios that overlook the vineyard. The drive up through the estate feels more like the Willamette hills than anywhere. It’s rustic, but there’s nothing rough about it – the design leans elegant, warm, and just formal enough for a black-tie affair or a relaxed vineyard dinner.

The Wine: Biodynamic Pinot From the McMinnville Foothills
Maysara farms 260 of its 532 acres as Momtazi Vineyard, all Demeter Certified Biodynamic. The estate sits higher in elevation than much of the valley floor, which keeps harvest days warm and nights cool — a combination that gives the grapes more concentration and structure. The soil here is a mix of Nekia, Yamhill, Peavine, and Jory, and Maysara keeps yields low (under two and a half tons per acre) to push flavor into every cluster.
The result is a lineup built around Pinot Noir, along with Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Rosé, and a small sparkling program. If your wedding menu leans Italian, Maysara’s Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris are a natural pour alongside pasta, charcuterie, or a antipasto-style spread.
Getting to Maysara Winery
Maysara sits at 15765 SW Muddy Valley Rd in McMinnville, about an hour southwest of Portland and a straight shot down Highway 99W once you’re in wine country. Guests coming from PDX should plan for around 50 miles of driving, most of it through farmland and vineyard hills once you pass Newberg and Dundee. There’s no public transit out to the estate, so couples usually arrange a shuttle or point guests toward a car service for the night — especially with a full tasting list on the schedule.
Things to Do in Oregon Wine Country
A Maysara wedding is often the anchor for a full weekend in the Willamette Valley, and the area gives guests plenty to fill the extra days.
Nearby wineries. Coeur de Terre Vineyard and Youngberg Hill are both just minutes away and easy to add to a tasting itinerary. Brooks Wine and Yamhill Valley Vineyards round out a short drive north. Stoller Family Estate is worth the trip if your guests want to see a more contemporary side of Oregon winemaking.
Hikes and outdoor time. The Trappist Abbey in nearby Carlton has quiet forest trails that make for a peaceful morning walk. Erratic Rock State Natural Site, just outside McMinnville, is a short and easy hike.
Where to eat. Downtown McMinnville carries most of the area’s best restaurants. Bistro Maison covers French classics, and Nick’s Italian Cafe leans into the region’s Italian roots with dishes like crab lasagna. La Rambla is the spot for Spanish tapas and a deep wine list. For a special dinner, the Joel Palmer House in Dayton builds its menu around Oregon mushrooms and truffle.
Where to stay. The Atticus Hotel puts guests in walking distance of downtown McMinnville’s restaurants and shops. Youngberg Hill offers a quieter, vineyard-view stay about ten minutes outside town.
Whether your guests spend the weekend touring wineries, hiking the foothills, or working through McMinnville’s restaurant list, Maysara gives a wedding weekend the kind of backdrop that photos alone won’t fully capture — though we’ll certainly try.
