A romantic, intimate cliffside wedding at Sonoma Coast State Park

Photos by Voyage + Vine Photography
Northern California residents, Justine and Elijah, feel right at home at their favorite spot on the coastline – Sonoma Coast State Park. They didn’t hesitate when it came to deciding where they should exchange vows with their closest friends and family.
Less popular than areas like Big Sur, Sonoma Coast State Park is similarly lined with dramatic cliffs, sweeping grass fields, and rocky beaches.

Starting with a private first look, we picked the perfect location for stunning cliffside views. For a sunny Saturday, I was so pleased to see how empty and private the park felt.

After a few portraits to calm their nerves and soak in the moment, the couple’s friends and family gathered for the two to officially tie the knot.

To celebrate, the family all headed to Rio Nido for a laid-back toast under string lights.

Sonoma Coast Elopements
Sonoma Coast State Park is an idyllic setting for couples seeking an intimate elopement. To plan your ceremony, you might need to start with obtaining a special use permit. Choose a picturesque location within the park, such as the serene Shell Beach or the dramatic vistas of Goat Rock Beach. (This particular elopement was near Shell Beach).
The park’s diverse landscapes ā from sandy shores to towering cliffs ā offer incredible backdrop after backdrop. I was just in awe of all of the incredible locations for portraits within a few feet of each other. And again, I was shocked to see how empty the park was on a brilliant, sunny Saturday in spring.
Things to do near Sonoma Coast State Park
I stayed in nearby Russian River and absolutely loved it. It has a quaint, small-town-in-the-woods feel, but with a progressive, artsy feel. You can tell the locals really care about the land and small businesses there, and take pride in their corner of the world.
I stopped by Trillium Wine Bar for a brilliant dinner with wine pairings. For breakfast on my last day, I treated myself to an Irish-themed small cafe with amazing breads and lattes.
Ahead of meeting Justine and Elijah, I stopped by Lightwave Coffee and Kitchen, with a gorgeous little garden and divine food. I also made sure to see some Redwoods, and enjoyed a nature walk in the Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park.
